Ratings Forming Part of Navigational Watch (RFPNW)
SCOPE
This Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-II/4, Table A-II/4of the STCW Code.
This requires a total of forty (40) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B – Course Outline.
TRAINING OUTCOMES
To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-II/4 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competences as Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch.
Specifically, at the end of the course the trainees must be able to:
- steer the ship and also comply with the helm orders in the English language;
- keep a proper look-out by sight and hearing;
- contribute to monitoring and controlling a safe watch; and
- operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures.
ENTRY STANDARDS
Entry to the course is open to all trainees who intend to be certificated as Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch.
They must be medically fit to enable them to participate in all aspects of the training particularly the practical exercises.
COURSE CERTIFICATE
On successful compliance of the requirements of the course, a Certificate of Training Completion shall be issued certifying a holder's acquisition of the mandatory minimum requirements and competence as required in Regulation II/4, STCW Convention 1978, as amended.
