Ship Simulator and Bridge Teamwork (SSBT)
SCOPE
This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency in Table VIII/2, A-VIII/2 and B-VIII/2 of the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended.
TRAINING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this training program, the candidate will fulfill the requirements of Table VIII/2,A-III/2 and B-III/2 of the STCW Code, as amended which provides for competencies in their actual duties and responsibilities onboard for the competence in handling ships in various conditions.
- Understanding of Bridge WatchkeepingPrinciples
- Understandingof the importance of passage planning and contingency plan
- Understanding of Bridge Team Organization and Management and appreciate the value of bridge teamwork, sharing workload, and building good teamwork with or without pilot onboard, thus improving safety and efficiency.
- Understanding the factors affecting the Ship Handling and Maneuvering characteristics of a ship
- Handle unexpected, abrupt emergency situations and make decisions that are realistic and sensitive to constraints.
ENTRY STANDARDS
This training course is open to all masters and deck officers. For those who graduated before year 2002, it is mandatory that they have completed relevant training in Radar Observation and Plotting. Additionally, thorough understanding of the Collision Regulations (Rules of the Road) is prerequisite.
COURSE CERTIFICATE
On successful completion of the training and course assessment, a Certificate of Completion shall be issued as evidence of fulfilling the mandatory minimum requirements and competencies as specified in Regulation VIII/2 of the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended.
