Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in the Maritime Sector (PADAMS)

SCOPE

This Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse course covers the required knowledge, understanding & proficiencies prescribe in Table A- VI/1-4 as required in section B- VIII/1 of STCW ‘78, as amended.

This requires a total of eight (8) hours instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.

TRAINING OUTCOMES 

To meet the minimum required standard competence for all trainees assigned to Maritime Sector/ shipboard duties as required in section B-VIII/1 of STCW Code, this course is designed to enable the trainees to:

  1. gain working knowledge of the main components of the alcohol and drug problems.
  2. appreciate the importance of the effects of alcohol beverages on their behavior in the workplace or elsewhere
  3. comply with pertinent laws, policies, and regulations
  4. assess the implication of alcohol and drug abuse for fellow seafarers, family and shipping companies

ENTRY STANDARDS

Entry to the course is open to all trainees who are medically fit to enable them to participate in all aspects of the training particularly the practical exercises.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

On successful completion of the requirements of the course, a Certificate of Training Completion shall be issued certifying a holder's acquisition of the mandatory minimum requirements and competence in Prevention of alcohol and Drug abuse in the Maritime Sector (PADAMS).
