ISM Code Familiarization (ISM)

SCOPE

The International Safety Management (ISM) Code familiarization Training course complies with Chapter IX on Management for the safe operation of ships of the SOLAS 1974, as amended. This course provides knowledge & understanding of the International Management Code for safe operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention.

This requires a total of eight (8) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B- Course outline.

TRAINING OUTCOMES 

This course is designed to enable the trainees, both inter-island & international, to successfully meet the specific competence, specifically after completion of the course the trainee must be able to:

  1. familiarize the ISM Code.
  2. observe safe practices in ship’s operation and working environment.
  3. establish safeguards against all identified risks and pollution.
  4. assess risks, threat & hazard.
  5. evaluate the corrective and preventive actions.
  6. Continuously improve safety management skills of personnel ashore and onboard ships.

ENTRY STANDARDS

Entry to the course is open to all personnel who are medically fit to enable them to participate in all aspects of the training.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

On successful completion of the requirements of the course, a certification of training completion shall be issued certifying a holder’s acquisition of the required competency of the Training course ISM Code Familiarization.
